After a string of unconvincing performances and an embarrassing 4-0 league defeat to Everton in their last game, Pep Guardiola is looking for a superstar to join his team and what better player to describe the word superstar than Lionel Messi.  The Barcelona forward is yet to agree to a new deal and with his current contract expiring in 2018 makes this an ideal time for Pep to try to tempt the player to England.  Although the chances of Lionel Messi leaving his boyhood club to which he joined at age 13 are rather slim, a reunion with former boss Pep Guardiola, in which Messi endured arguably the best years of his career would be appealing to both player and manager.

Could Lionel Messi be heading to England in a shock move in order to help Manchester City and reunite with former boss Pep Guardiola?

However, with the Premier League title looking unlikely now for Guardiola with Chelsea looking the favorites to be crowned champions, Man City need new reinforcements.  With shot stopper Claudio Bravo (who was also brought in from Barcelona) in horrible form, one can only assume Pep Guardiola will be in the market for a new goalkeeper. Also with a defense in need of strengthening due to the inexperience of John Stones in the back, who cost City 50 million euros over the summer and the injury problems of captain Vincent Kompany sidelining the Belgian indefinitely and the poor performances of Otamendi, City will need to be in the market for new center backs. Also with full backs such as Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna getting older and seeming to be heading for the exit door, Man City’s main priority should be strengthening their defense.  According to reports, City are targeting Danny Rose of Tottenham, former Barcelona La Masia Product, Grimaldo who now plays for Benfica, Atheltic Bilbao’s French defender Aymeric Laporte, and Serge Aurier of PSG who has also been linked with a move to Barcelona.

It is unrealistic Messi leaves Barcelona, but should he leave, it seems that now would be the ideal timing and the Argentine’s most preferred and ideal destination would be rejoining Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
